BERKELEY HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY
INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICY
Interlibrary loan is based on the willingness of libraries to share and cooperate with each other. When BHPL receives materials from another library, BHPL is agreeing to adhere to the policies of the lending library. BHPL is also agreeing to assume responsibility for the safekeeping and timely return of any materials borrowed. Any violations of this agreement risk our future relationships with lending libraries and could result in our inability to borrow.
1. Patrons may have a maximum of ten (10) interlibrary loans in process at any time. This would include any combination of requests which are waiting to be filled, materials which have arrived and are circulating, and photocopy requests which have been requested and not yet received.
2. Requests for interlibrary loans will be accepted only from patrons in good standing. All fines and overdue materials must be cleared before the requests will be processed.
3. Interlibrary loan materials are subject to all restrictions placed upon them by the lending library (i.e. in-house use, etc.).
.
4. Materials may/may not be renewed at the discretion of the lending library. Fines may accrue during the renewal process.
5. Interlibrary loans will be held at the Circulation Desk for 14 days. The patron will be called when the materials arrive and again after one week.
6. Patrons will be responsible for all fees and overdue fines, including any service fees charged
by the lending library. Fees and service charges from the lending library will be attached to the patron’s record even if the materials are not picked up.
7. Any patron who has been referred to the collection agency for retrieval of an interlibrary loan
will not be permitted to borrow through interlibrary loan for a period of six (6) months from
the time the overdue materials are returned and the record cleared. At the discretion of the
Board of Trustees, further abuse of interlibrary loan could result in the loss of this privilege.
