WORD PROCESSOR POLICY & PROCEDURE
The Basics
Patrons must sign-in at the Reference Desk in order to guarantee a full one-hour session. Anyone not signing in will be asked to immediately save or print their work, sign-in properly or defer to those who are waiting.
Sign-ups are taken for the next available timeslot. Sign-ups allow five minutes between sessions. Patrons must start within 5 minutes of their established start time or risk losing their timeslot.
Reservations are not taken over the telephone.
Librarians will enter the start times. The Reference wall clock is the official time.
Users must allow time within the one-hour session to print or save their work.
Time lost due to adding paper or machine malfunction is included in the one-hour session. No additional time will be given if the next user is present.
The Fine Points
At the end of a session, if no one is waiting, the current user may sign-up for one additional session. At the end of the second session, they may continue but must promptly relinquish the computer to the next person who signs in.
During a session, a patron may leave the computer by requesting a “Computer in Use” sign from the Reference Desk to place on the keyboard. Time away from the computer is included in the previously established one-hour.
If the current user finishes early: (1) The next sign-in can start early and receive the extra time in addition to the one-hour session. If available, a second full session can be used. (2) If the next sign-in is not present, a non-sign-in can complete the remaining time and sign-in for the next available session.
Failure to adhere to the procedures and time limits may result in loss of word processing privileges.
Reference Librarians can offer basic support and assistance only.
