~ Enjoys watching and listening to others speak ~
~ Uses more than 3 words ~
~ Begins using simple sentences ~
~ Points out pictured objects as well as family members in photos ~
~ Begins pretend play with familiar roles ~
~ Enjoys playing alone at times and has favorite toys ~
~ Imitates caregivers by using gestures, words, intonations, expressions ~
~ Enjoys books as toys and a way to interact with others ~
~ Turns pages of sturdy books ~
~ Uses crayons with supervision ~
~ Understands simple directions ~


To Do for Parents


~ Encourage dramatic play ~
~ Join child in play but give time to play alone ~
~ Provide large paper, crayons, paint brushes, chalk, finger paint, play dough ~
~ Choose storybooks with simple language the child understands ~
~ Choose toys the child can use for imaginative play ~
~ Buy durable books so child can read and turn pages independently ~
