"Character Sketches" is back for its 4th year! The theme for 2021 is award winners. See the table for a tentative schedule.
Cedar City Library gives special thanks to our primary costumers Janice Ruesch and Debbie Grimm for their hours of free service to this program. We aslo thank the Parowan Community Theater and Parowan High School from which most costumes are borrowed.
January | Grammy Award - Recognizes achievement in the music industry. |
February | Academy Award - International recognition for cinematic achievements. |
March | YALSA Award of Excellence for Nonfiction (Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association) - Awards best nonfiction for teens. |
April | Newbery Medal Award - Distinguished contribution to American literature for children. |
May | Pulitzer Prize Award - Outstanding achievement in journalism; letters, drama & music; and special citations. |
June | Tony Award - Excellence in live Broadway Theatre. |
July | Eisner Award - Creative achievement in American comic books. |
August | Hugo Award - Best dramatic Sci-Fi presentation (theatrical film, Television, dramatized works) of the previous year. |
September | Annie Award: Excellence in animation shown in cinema and television. |
October | The Game Award - Video game of the Year. |
November | National Book Award - Celebrates the best literature in America. |
December | Director's Choice - "Character Sketches" was originally intended to run through October of any given year. However, in 2019 and 2020 participants strongly encourage extending the season. Assuming that interest remains strong, December be "Director's Choice" (meaning the Library Director). Characters may be drawing from awards winners in sports, movies, television, games, or local residents who have won awards. |
