The library was established in April 1969, and formally named “The Ralph C. Staiger
Library” at a dedication ceremony on December 27, 1984. Dr. Staiger was one of
the founding members of the International Reading Association, and served as
the organization’s executive director from 1962 to 1984. Dr. Staiger was deeply
interested in global education issues and the improvement of reading
instruction worldwide.
