The Professional Collection is our largest collection. Subject areas include reading, literacy, language arts, writing, general education, teaching, testing methods, adult education, educational psychology, English as a second language, children’s literature resources, printing/publishing materials, and biographies of educators. The collection is arranged according to Library of Congress call number.
The Reference Collection contains a variety of U.S. and international directories, indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other resource materials on education, teaching, testing, literacy, and reading. This collection is located in the second floor conference room.
The Journals Collection includes current and back issues of periodicals with a primary focus on reading, education, publishing, editing, business, and non-profit organizations.
The Children’s Collection comprises the past three years of IRA book award winners including Children’s, Young Adults’, and Teachers’ Choices. The Mark Twain and IRA Book Award winners are also available. This collection is arranged alphabetically by author. Earlier award books are located at the Educational Resource Center in Willard Hall, University of Delaware.
The Past Presidents Collection comprises books written and donated by past presidents of IRA. The majority of this collection is currently housed in the archives.
The Cramer Collection is named for Dr. Eugene H. Cramer, former Illinois Reading Council president and member of the Illinois Reading Council’s Hall of Fame. Dr. Cramer generously donated his vast personal collection of historic basal readers to our library. The Cramer Collection is located in the bookcases across from the library. The collection contains over 700 books published from 1802 – 1976, and includes early readers in a variety of subjects. This is a non-circulating collection.
The IRA Collection consists of all materials published by the Association including books, videos, journals, newspapers, and board minutes.
The IRA Archives include a complete collection of all IRA publications, photos, and historical artifacts. An additional offsite archive is located in a secure climate-controlled warehouse at Iron Mountain, a professional records and information management company. This is a non-circulating collection.
