Reference Assistance
We are available to assist you with your information needs and to help you learn to use the library's resources more effectively. Library staff can also provide:
- Answers to reference questions
- Assistance with research
- Instruction in the use of online databases
- Assistance with locating and requesting materials
Circulation
International Reading Association staff members may borrow materials from the library for a period of thirty days. Visitors may conduct on-site research using our broad range of materials on reading and related subjects. Photocopying is available. Please call in advance to schedule an appointment.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that provides International Reading Association staff with materials that are needed for research, but are not currently available in our library.
What may be requested?
Books, book chapters, and journal articles not owned by the Ralph C. Staiger Library.
What is not available for loan?
- Entire journal volumes or issues. As a substitute, photocopies of articles can be supplied through Interlibrary Loan.
- Audiovisual materials
- Items which are fragile, oversized, or too brittle to lend
- Items prior to 1800, or materials located in other libraries' special collections
- Reference materials
- Recreational reading materials
How do I request material via Interlibrary Loan?
Please send an e-mail to library@reading.org with as much information as possible.
How long will it take to obtain my material?
Loan and photocopy requests are usually filled within 10 business days. Material not widely held may take longer.
How long can I keep material?
The normal loan period is between two and four weeks; however, renewals are often available.
