Most books and other materials are loaned for two weeks (14 days). Books and materials not on reserve or a waiting list may be renewed for an additional two weeks (14 days). Renewals can be done by telephone (318-259-5697) through the website at www.jacksonparishlibrary.org, or in person.
Videocassettes and DVDs are loaned for one week (7 days) and may NOT be renewed. Borrowers must be 18 years of age and have an adult borrowers card to check out videos and DVDs.
Overdue fines are charged at the rate of .05 cents per day for each book kept beyond the due date. A maximum fine of $2.00 per book will apply to books checked out from the main library. No fines are charged on overdue books checked out from the bookmobile.
Overdue fines are charged at the rate of $1.00 per day for overdue DVDs and VHS videos checked out from both the main library and bookmobile. A maximum fine of $3.00 per DVD and $2.00 per VHS video will apply.
Loan periods and fines for audiovisual materials such as compact discs, audiobooks, art prints, etc. and for encyclopedias, items borrowed through interlibrary loan and overnight loan materials differ according to the type of material. Library staff can answer questions regarding all loan periods and fines. Fines will be charged on all overdue videos, DVDs and other audiovisual materials checked out from the bookmobile.
Some materials, such as test preparation books and videos, may require a cash deposit to check out. The deposit is refunded when the material is returned by the due date and in good condition.
There are limits on the number of books and other materials that may be checked out to patrons. Library staff can answer questions about limits on the number of materials that may be borrowed at any one time.
The library has two (2) book return drops located near the main entrances on both the east and west sides of the building. Books and other materials can be returned through the book drop after regular library hours and on weekends, holidays and other times when the library is closed. Videocassettes and DVDs may NOT be returned through the book drop, but must be brought inside the library to the Circulation Desk. A fine of $1.00 will be charged for each video or DVD returned through the book drop.
Borrowers who owe overdue fines totaling $10.00 or more must pay the amount due in full before any further materials can be checked out. Borrowers who owe overdue fines totaling less than $10.00, but who have owed the fines for 90 days or more must pay the amount due in full before any further materials can be checked out.
Overdue items not returned after 90 days will be considered to be LOST. Patrons will be mailed a bill for the full cost of the items. Borrowers who fail to return these materials or remit full payment for them will lose their borrowing privileges until their account has been cleared of all charges and may be subject to collection action.
