December 2022 Library News

Happy December! Wow this year has flown by!

First things first, I want to thank the WCDA for awarding us grant money to make our library a better place! We are going to use the money to build an amazing window seat for the bay window in our kid’s room. I can’t wait to see families sitting there reading stories together!

We have a few exciting events coming up this month. On December 15th we have another “Painting with Carolyn” class at 6pm. Check the library’s Facebook page for an example of what she is going to be teaching us to paint. Cost is $3 to cover your supplies, please RSVP ahead of time so we have enough supplies prepared. Stop in to the library or call to get your name on the list.

We’re planning a Christmas Open House! Come join us for cookies, hot cocoa and hot cider on Thursday December 22nd from 4:00-7:00!

Friday morning story times are still going on! Friday, December 2nd, 9th,  and 16th are our next ones, starting at 10am. These are geared for toddler and preschool age, but babies are welcome too! It’s a fun time for kids to socialize together, learn about sitting quietly for a short story or two, have some fun coloring and playing with the library toys. Parents and caregivers can enjoy some chit chat too! Please pay attention to the library’s facebook page for more information.

The library has two different book clubs that participate in a monthly reading and discussion. If this is anything that sounds interesting to you, don’t hesitate to reach out at the library!

Please take note that the library will be closed on Saturday December 24th and Monday December 26th for Christmas. Also, we will be closed on January 2nd for New Year’s.

New at the library this month:
Adult Non-fiction books: “Have I Told You This Already?” by Lauren Graham, “The King: The Life of Charles III” by Christopher Anderson, “The Light We Carry” by Michelle Obama, and “Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit and Glamour of an Icon” by Kate Anderson Brower.

I’ve been posting some pictures of the new books to the Northwood Public Library’s Facebook page, so don’t forget to “Like” the page to be notified when we put more new books out throughout the month.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have via e-mail emily@northwood.lib.ia.us or call us at 324-1340. We hope you will check us out soon!
