AV and Presentation Equipment

While the library is the supplier of AV equipment, SVC does not have a designated AV department. Technical help is available from Computing Services and professional library staff, however we need to rely on faculty and staff to take responsibility for general knowledge and use of the equipment. It is up to everyone to work collectively to ensure smooth operation.

Plan ahead and practice on the computer you will be using for your presentation:

  • How does your flash drive interact with the computer?
  • Have you tested the computer to make sure you can log in and reach your J or M drive (if you need it)?
  • Is the version of Power Point that you created your presentation with compatible with the version on the computer you will be using?
  • If you are using your own laptop, do you know how to change the display settings in case it doesn’t automatically sync with the projector?
  • Do you have a Mac? We have adapters in the library, but you should test it ahead of time to catch any display glitches.

AV Policy

  • Equipment is available for faculty, staff and students who need to give presentations in classes or meetings. The library owns notebook computers, LCD projectors, VCR/DVD players, digital presenters, digital camcorders, screens as well as other items. Please talk to a librarian for a complete list.
  • Equipment may be reserved through the library by speaking with a librarian. See TIMING below.
  • In-class use will receive priority over other requests.
  • Library staff will either unlock existing cabinets or deliver and set up (and pick up) portable equipment, but they do not have the time to accompany you to your presentation and “cue it up” for you. Instructions for use accompany all equipment and are available here. Please familiarize yourself with these instructions:
TIMING:
  • If you feel you will need assistance, schedule a tutorial or “dress rehearsal” at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Weekdays when classes are in session:
    • All classroom cabinets in the Mansion (including the Theatre) are unlocked between 8 and 8:20 AM. They are locked between 5:15 and 5:30 PM. Any access outside these parameters should be scheduled with Sarah or Andrea at least 24 hours in advance. “Standing orders” to accommodate repeated use are encouraged.
    • Equipment requiring delivery (projector/screen to a non-classroom, classroom peripherals, etc.) should be scheduled with Sarah or Andrea at least one week in advance.
  • Outside of normal library hours (call 447-6312 for hours):
    • Classroom cabinet keys will be loaned to faculty or staff so you may let yourself in. Please plan in advance so we may train you if needed.
    • Equipment requiring delivery should be scheduled at least one week in advance.

Questions? Call Sarah (447-6312) or Andrea (447-6311) or e-mail libstaff@svc.edu.

SVC is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
