A new mother named Shelby Tebow goes missing one night in a generally safe, pleasant neighborhood. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter Delilah disappear as well. Soon, Meredith's body is discovered along with a suicide note indicating that Delilah will never be found, but 11 years later Delilah escapes from the basement where she's been kept with a young boy. Kubica's (The Good Girl) latest starts strong, with multiple points of view, plenty of red herrings, and connections between the characters that are not immediately apparent. Unfortunately, a series of ludicrous plot twists keep it from sticking the landing. Brittany Pressley, Jennifer Jill Araya, Gary Tiedemann, and Jesse Vilinsky capably voice the various characters. VERDICT Best for loyal fans of the author or readers of over-the-top domestic suspense.—Stephanie Klose, Library Journal
