Statement and Policies

RULES OF BEHAVIOR FOR PATRONS:

The West Baton Rouge Parish Library is open to all. Any behavior that disrupts the orderly use of the library or that affects the staff's ability to provide service is strictly prohibited. No one has the right to interfere with anyone else's right to use the library.

1. Children under the age of 12 (twelve) may not be left at the library without responsible adult supervision. Staff members are not allowed to assume responsibility for any child in the absence of a parent or assigned chaperon, even for a short period of time.

2. Guns, knives and other weapons are not permitted on library premises, police and security guards excepted.

3. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library unless part of a planned reception or for meeting room use.

4. Smoking and the use of tobacco products are not permitted in the library.

5. Alcohol and illegal drugs are not allowed in the library and persons appearing to be intoxicated or on drugs will be required to leave.

6. Loud, abusive or vulgar language that is disturbing to patrons or staff will not be tolerated.

7. Physical, verbal and sexual harassment of library patrons or staff will not be tolerated.

8. Thievery, vandalism and fighting are prohibited.

9. Soliciting, begging, games of chance, and proselytizing are prohibited.

10. Exhibitionism (indecent exposure) and voyeurism (peeping) are prohibited.

11. Seating at study carrels is limited to one person.
Seating at tables is limited to four people.
Seating at a computer workstation is limited to one person with the exception of a parent with a child or with special permission from the Circulation desk.

12. Radios or tape, cassette and CD players, etc. cannot be played in the library.

13. Backpacks and booksacks must be placed in designated area.

14. Mobile phones should be in "silent" mode and conversations held quietly or taken outside the library.

Violation of these rules may result in eviction from the library and suspension of library privileges. The police and/or Child Protection Services may be notified.
