Obama Commutes Chelsea Manning's Sentence

Manning, the transgender former Army intelligence officer, was sentenced to 35 years in a male military prison for giving classified information to Wikileaks. While in prison, Manning attempted suicide multiple times, prompting supporters and activists to plead with the president for her pardon. Manning, who could go free May 17, is among the 209 inmates whose sentences Obama commuted on Tuesday.
