Who?
- Students, homemakers, senior citizens,
families, businesspersons-anyone fourteen years of age and over can help our
library deliver a variety of quality services to the community.
When?
- Volunteers can help out whenever the library
is open, Sunday through Saturday, though some positions require specific
time availability.
Why?
- Community needs for CRDL's educational,
recreational, and informational services are continually increasing. Working
together, volunteers and paid staff can help meet these increased demands
despite a limited budget.
- Not only can volunteers help the library--it's
a two-way street. Volunteers acquire new skills, meet interesting
people, and experience the satisfaction of sharing their talents and time
with others.
Job Descriptions
- Office Aides - Perform basic office tasks
including copying, cutting, shredding, filing and cleaning.
- Outreach Aides - Help promote library events
and services by driving around town to put up promotional flyers and help
bring library materials to senior centers around Mount Pleasant. Must
have a valid driver's license.
- Program Aides - Assist staff with program
set-up, clean-up, and running of events. Some volunteers may take
photos and organize photos in scrapbooks.
- Special Projects Aides - Throughout the year,
various special projects will come up which volunteers may be recruited
for. These projects may by short-term, or one-day, while others may be
long-term, ongoing projects.
- Internships - College students looking to meet
graduation requirements may apply for internships in library experience,
computers and marketing.
Volunteers may apply for short-term and/or
long-term positions.
As a non-profit organization, volunteers may
fulfill school or scholarship requirements for volunteer hours with CRDL.
However, we do not accept applications for court-based community service.
Guidelines
- To make volunteering more enjoyable for you,
prospective volunteers attend an orientation prior to volunteering.
During this one-on-one orientation, volunteers will be familiarized with the
library and our policies, and we will discuss your interests and
availability so we can find the best volunteer position for you.
Please remember, volunteers supplement staff
and work with them; they do not replace CRDL's hardworking, dedicated
staff.
If you are interested in volunteering at CRDL,
please complete this
application. Once your application has been
received, the Volunteer Coordinator will call to set up an orientation.
We look forward to working with you!
