Remote Access Databases
The following electronic databases are available to Dillon Library cardholders from your home computers using your library barcode # (i.e., Patron ID Number):

African American Song documents in sound the African American experience from the earliest records through the 1970s. A people''s history, from post-Reconstruction through the Great Migration to the Civil Rights movement, these 50,000 recorded tracks--for online listening--document the struggles, triumphs, and ongoing journey of African Americans, with recordings by figures in the history of black American music such as Ma Rainey, Lead Belly, Mahalia Jackson, Alberta Hunter, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughn, Dizzy Gillespie and others.    

American Song A developing historical database that will contain 50,000 tracks allowing people to hear music from America's past. The database will include songs by and about American Indians, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys. Included in the database are the songs of Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, anti-war protests and more.Select entire albums or individual tracks. Liner notes, including album cover graphics and extensive information, to all the albums are included (in PDF format).

Associated Press Multimedia Archive is an electronic library containing the Associated Press' current year's photo report and a selection of images from their vast negative and print library dating from the 1840s. The Archive features two photo databases: an international photo archive and a Euro/Asian photo archive. There is a separate database containing graphics, maps, illustrations and logos prepared by AP graphic artists. They can be downloaded and opened as PDF files. Additionally, the AP Audio Database contains over half a million searchable audio clips dating back to the 1920s, with clips as recent as 48 hours. The AP Text Database contains more than 700,000 pieces of text from the Associated Press. To acces these files remotely, you must enter the following user name and password information:
user name: = clarence
password: = the first five numbers of your library barcode followed by lib. (Note: there is no space between the barcode numbers and lib (e.g. xxxxxlib).    

Downloadable Audiobooks from NetLibrary and Recorded Books are digital versions of audiobooks that are available through the Internet. Audiobooks can be played on any desktop or portable device supporting Windows Media Player version 9.0 and higher. You can also transfer your favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs, and even select smartphone devices. To access the database for the first time, you must "create an account" (i.e., register your acccount) by entering a unique username and password on one of the Dillon Library public terminals. Thereafter, the username and password must be entered for each login session on a computer which has Internet access (e.g., a remote computer in your home, a computer in your office or on a computer located within the Dillon Library).

Classical Musical Library is a growing fully searchable classical music resource--a comprehensive database of distinguished classical recordings. It includes tens of thousands of licensed recordings that users can listen to on the Internet. The audio selections are cross-referenced to a database of supplementary reference information. Users can create personal playlists; instructors can create digital course folders (along or to work with applications such as Blackboard and WebCT); there are anthology playlists linked to the major history and appreciation textbooks (such as "The Norton Anthology of Western Music" and others).    

Contemporary World Music The focus is on contemporary genres, such as reggae, world-beat, neo-traditional, world fusion, Balkanic jazz, African film, Bollywood, Arab swing and jazz, and other genres such as traditional music - Indian classical, fado, flamenco, klezmer, zydeco, gospel, gagaku, Irish, Scottish , Welsh and more.Select entire albums or individual tracks. GreenFILE is a database indexing reports, documents, and articles concerning the environment and environmental issues.    

Heritage Quest Online    

Infotrac Newspapers database indexes subjects, people, products, locations and organizations appearing in the Bergen Record, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Newark Star-Ledger & Times of London.    

JerseyClicks.org is New Jersey''s one stop library gateway to quality information. Its Quick Search function searches the full text of thousands of magazines, newspapers, reference books and biographies as well as indexed images including photographs, maps and flags -- all from licensed databases purchased for you by the New Jersey State Library and State Legislature. One of the database segments, "ReferenceUSA," contains detailed information on 13 million U.S. businesses (both private & public companies); 120 million U.S. households; 683,000 U.S. health care providers; 1 million Canadian businesses; and 11 million Canadian residents. If you already have a library card from the Dillon Public Library, enter your barcode number when prompted to do so after you put in your search terms.    

Search Junior Authors and Illustrators database. This database contains profiles and photographs of prominent authors, illustrators, and translators of children’s books. Each profile includes a bibliography of selected works, as well as lists of additional biographical sources.

Literature Resource Center provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline. Combining Gale Group's core literary databases in a single online service, the Literature Resource Center covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with i;n-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.

Magill's Medical Guide An online reference for medical issues.

PatronBooksInPrint.com enables you to search the bibliographic records of over 5 million book, audio book, and video titles with links to the Clarence Dillon Library holdings. To access this database remotely, you must enter the following user name and passord information:

ProQuest Newspapers and Research Files provides access to information from journals and newspapers across a wide range of subject areas, including the arts, humanities, law, science, women's issues, etc.    

Reference Suite @ Facts.com inccludes The World Almanac, World News Digest, Today''s Science and Issues & Controversies databases.    

Reference USA contains detailed information on U.S. and Canadian businesses, U.S and Canadian households, and international businesses. This database is funded by the New Jersey State Library as part of the NJ Knowledge Initiative. If you are not in the library you will be prompted for your library card number.    

Salem Press Decades in American History A searchable database of articles focusing on the American Experience during the decades of The Fifties (50s), Sixties (60s), Seventies (70s), and Eighties (80s)
