Q. How do I get a library card?
A. If you are a resident of Colleton County or own property in the county, you may sign up for a library card by completing a short application and showing a picture identification which includes the name and Colleton County address of the applicant. Should your picture i.d. not contain your correct address, a piece of mail with current Colleton County address may be used.
Persons living outside of Colleton County who do not meet the above requirements may pay a $15 annual non-resident fee for a library card.
Q. How old do you have to be to obtain a library card?
A. You may get a library card at any age. If a child is 18 or younger, a parent/guardian’s signature is required.
Q. If my library card is lost, how do I obtain another card?
A. There is a $2 charge to obtain a new library card and you must show current information & identification.
Q. How many items may be borrowed from the library per card?
A. While there is not a current limit to total number of items that can be checked out, we ask that you please limit to three (3) the number of books per subject and author due to our small collection. DVDs and videos may be checked out for three (3) days with a limit of three (3) per patron. Three periodicals per patron may be checked out for three (3) days.
Q. How long may I keep library materials?
A. Normal checkout for books/audio books is for three weeks. Videos/DVDs for 3 days. Periodicals for 3 days.
Q. May I renew items by phone?
A. You may renew items by phone provided you call prior to or on the date due. In addition, you may access your library account online at our website ("My Account") to renew books or put holds on materials currently checked out by establishing a PIN number. You may sign up for your PIN number at the circulation desk in the library.
Q. What if the item I want is checked out or at another branch location?
A. You may place a book, audio or video on hold. See above for information on securing a PIN number to do this online at our web site.
Q. How much are overdue fines?
A. Fines are $ .10 per day per item with a maximum of $5.00 per book fine.
Q. How much does the library charge for photocopies?
A. The library charges $.20 per page for photocopies.
Q. How much does the library charge for faxes?
A. Outgoing faxes are $1.00 per page and incoming faxes are $.50 per page.
Q. Can I search the Library’s catalog even if I am not at the Library?
A. Yes, the Library’s online catalog can be accessed from any computer. Just go to our web page, enter an author, title, or subject in one of the search boxes, and click Go. You can also see what materials you have checked out and place holds on materials through the catalog.

- To check out books or other library materials and to use the Internet, you must present your library card or a picture ID. Your library card must be in good standing with no overdue library materials or fines or other charges due.
- Holds on books that the library owns may be made online on our webpage or by coming into the library. If you choose to come into the library to request a hold on a book, you can fill out a hold card and pay a fee for postage at the Circulation Desk. When the book becomes available, the hold card will be mailed to you or if you have requested it online, an email will be sent to you. The material will be held at the Circulation Desk for you to pick up within one (1) week.

- Damaged or lost books are charged to your library card at the replacement cost or, if the replacement cost is not available, a standard library replacement cost determined each year.
