Service Unites!  National Volunteer Week 2017

Sunday, April 23 - Saturday, April 29

National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize and thank volunteers who lend their time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about in their community and around the world. Their stories serve to inspire others to take action and discover their collective power to unite in making a difference.

A very special “THANK YOU!” goes out to all the dedicated volunteers of the Culpeper County Library who donated almost 7,000 hours of their time during 2016 to the Culpeper County Library!

Saving Lives: How you may be able to help save a life through becoming a QPR-trained Gatekeeper with Alan Rasmussen

Thursday, April 27, 6:30 to 7:30 - in the Library's Meeting Room

What is QPR?

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer -- 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of someone who is thinking about suicide and how to question, persuade, and refer them to help.  Individuals who complete QPR training become community Gatekeepers.

What is a Gatekeeper?

A Gatekeeper is someone who is in a position to recognize the warning signs of someone who may be contemplating suicide.  Gatekeepers include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many other people who are in a position to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide to help.

QPR-trained Gatekeepers learn:
  • To recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • How to offer hope
  • How to get help and save a life
