Technology Tuesday Class:
As part of the library's Technology Tuesdays, Fairfield Media Center Director, Jason Strong will teach a step-by-step class on the
process of transferring your VHS tapes to a digital format.
This class will be offered twice today, Tuesday, June 28: at 10:00am and 6:00pm. This class is about an hour-long. The 6pm class
is a repeat of the 10am class.
In this class, you will learn how to convert VHS tapes to a digital format. Jason will show you how to use the equipment, for when you return to FPL to convert your personally-produced tapes.
To sign up, you can either call the library, or come in person to the front desk. The class is free, and no deposit is required.
For questions, contact the Fairfield Public Library: at 641-472-6551 or www.fairfield.lib.ia.us
NOTE: When you are ready to try the process, you will use the Media Center’s equipment in a library study room. Both are
first-come, first-served. You will need to bring a Flash Drive with you that day, to store your digital files on after the conversion. The conversion-process is done in “real time” (for example, an 1-hour-long VHS tape will take 1 hour to convert to a digital format). Jason says that it is important to stay with the machine during this process, so you will need to plan accordingly. The conversion process leaves you with Digital Files on your personal Flash Drive.
An additional option: It is up to you whether you later want to use a library PC computer to burn that digital information to a disc.
However, Jason will not be covering the burn-to-disc process in his class. Several library computers have a disc-burning program. Calendar
