Bowman Library to host Rally for Reading featuring children’s authors, puppets, music, face painting, and prizes on June 2

Handley Regional Library is excited to announce the highly-anticipated Valley Reads Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and families!  The summer reading program for kids officially begins on June 2, with a fun and interactive event at Bowman Library called Rally for Reading.  Beginning at 11:00 AM, families can meet children’s authors Todd Strader, Camilla Sakai, and Marj Praml.  Kids will laugh and learn with performers Johnny-O and the ever-famous Bowman Puppets.  Face painting and temporary tattoos will also be provided by GlitterBugz.  During the event, kids and their families can register online to track their reading progress, win prizes from community sponsors, and more.

“We are excited to continue to provide exceptional reading programs and services to the community,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System.  “Our tagline for this year’s program is reading takes you everywhere, because we know that when someone reads a book, not only can they physically take it with them throughout the summer, but they can experience an adventure, learn something new, or discover a different world– and we are excited to support the surrounding community in this journey.  Plus, there is something happening every week for kids at each library location in our youth services department.  From animals, cultural dances, children’s authors, story time, and more special guests and surprises – there is something in store for everyone.  Complete details are available online or you can ask anyone at your local branch.”
