The Alpha and Omega books branch out from the original Mercy Thompson series while remaining part of the whole, making Burn Bright the fifth in the series and the fifteenth in the Mercy Thompson line. If you are completely unfamiliar with Mercy's world, this is not the book to start with. However, those who have only dabbled in either the original books or this companion series will find themselves on safe footing as they navigate the world of Charles Cornick, son of the alpha Bran and stepbrother to Mercy, and his wife, Anna, a rare Omega werewolf. In this outing, the pack is shaken with the murder of a wildling pack member and her fae mate. The circumstances around that death have the world of the werewolves crossing paths with those of the fairy folk, humans, and darkest witchcraft. With Charles as acting alpha while his father is away, Charles and Anna must team up to navigate the waters of pack politics while searching for an elite and well-funded foe.--Kuczwara, Dawn Copyright 2018 Booklist
