The Internet is one of the resources available on selected public computers for all users of the Henry County Public Library. Access to the Internet is compatible with the Library's endorsement of the Library Bill of Rights and its interpretations and the Freedom to Read; Internet is also compatible with the Library's materials selection policy, long-range plan goals and strategies. The Library does not and cannot control the information content available through the Internet and assumes no responsibility for the quality, accuracy, or currency of an Internet resource. Library patrons use the Internet at their own discretion. The Internet may contain material that is controversial or inappropriate for viewing by children. Parents are expected to monitor and supervise their children's use of the Internet.
All Internet users will have to have a signed Internet Use agreement on file before using the Internet. Library's staff will assist patrons with Internet use as time and staff knowledge permits but cannot offer personal instruction. The Library at times may offer formal instruction or information on Internet use. Public equipment and software are for Internet research and reference use only.
Library users must comply with all local, state, and federal laws while using the Internet. Users found to have violated any laws (including, but not limited to, those concerning copyright, fraud, privacy or obscenity- Playboy, Playgirl, Hustler, etc.) while using library facilities or equipment may have their computer privileges revoked. Patrons accessing sites judged to be unacceptable by the librarian in charge will be given a verbal first warning and asked to exit the site. The second time the patron is seen accessing inappropriate material, they will be banned from the library for the day and given a letter informing them that the third offense of viewing pornography on the library computers results in being banned from the library for thirty days. Internet users who choose to contact fee-based services while using the Library's Internet connection are responsible for any charges that they incur. User may not add, delete, or modify the equipment or programs in any way.
Patrons under the age of 18 must have a parent's signature on their Internet Use agreement in order to use the Internet.
Time limits on the Internet are 1 hour before 3 p.m. and 1/2 hour after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday the time limits are 1 hour all day (hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
There should be no more than 2 people at any Internet station at any time. Groups must be working in manner that will not disrupt other patrons.
The library does not provide electronic mail accounts, but you may use the computers to access your web-based e-mail.
