Algonkian New Hampshire
Wednesday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m. Indians occupying the territory within the boundaries of what is now New Hampshire shared language patterns subsequently labled "Algonkian." Jere R. Daniell, Professor of History Emeritus, Dartmouth College will describe the nature of the pre-contact (before Europeans came) society, changes triggered by contact, and Indian life after the Europeans had settled virtually all Granite State land. The concluding section will explain the origins of recent rapid growth of New Hampshire's Indian population. Professor Daniell has published extensively on New Hampshire Politics, colonial history, and the New England frontier. This program is made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
