Teddy Bear Bash

Join us for our second Teddy Bear Bash on February 6th from 2-4 pm. We'll have a fashion show at 3 pm where you can walk down the runway with your favorite teddy bear! We'll also have a photo booth, teddy bear yoga, a teddy bear doctor, and a teddy bear psychiatrist. All stuffed animals welcome! Call 259-5259 to RSVP or email jmakecha@leander.lib.tx.us.

Free Tax Help from AARP

Need help filing your taxes? AARP Tax-Aide is here at the library on Thursday afternoons through April 15th from 12:00 - 4:00 to help prepare returns and answer your questions.

What to bring: 2008 tax forms and booklet, copy of 2008 tax return, W-2 forms from each employer and any unemployment compensation statements, any 1099 forms, dependent care provider information, all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing, and social security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents.

Appointments are on a first come, first served basis.

Conversation Club / Club de Conversación

For Spanish speakers who want to practice English. For English speakers who want to practice Spanish. Other languages welcome, too. Free and open to anyone interested!

Introduction to Microsoft Excel

Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel on Thursdays, February 4th, 18th, and 25th from 6:30 - 8:30. The informal classes are free.

New Kid's Book Club

We are now offering a book club for kids! We'll be meeting twice, you are welcome to join us for either time. On February 17th at 6 pm, and February 18th at 10:30 am we will be discussing Hotel for Dogs by Lois Duncan.

Bow-Wow Reading Dogs

Sign up to read with a Bow-Wow Reading Dog the first Saturday of every month from 10-11! Call 512-259-5259 or email jmakecha@leander.lib.tx.us.

Austin Dog Alliance will be bringing their reading therapy dogs to the Library the first Saturday of every month from 10 am - 11 am. Reading therapy dogs are nationally certified and insured dogs that love to be read to by reluctant or struggling readers. Please come by or call the library to sign up for a fifteen minute reading time.

Bag Your Books and Help Support the Library!

Become a supporter of the Leander Library Foundation for $5 and get a book bag! Not only will the sturdy bright yellow bag get your books and movies home and back to the library, but you'll be helping the Foundation to provide materials and programs for the library. The bags are available at the circulation desk.

Of course we have a great library, but sometimes there's a book or video or even a CD we'd like that the library doesn't have available. Now you have the chance to purchase it, have it delivered to your door, and make a donation to the library with just a few clicks of your mouse!

When you click on the My Library Bookstore tab at the top of this page, you'll have access to over a million books, movies, and music you can order and have delivered right to your home. The profits from your purchases will be donated to the Leander Public Library to get more books for the Library. You'll be helping the Library's collection grow as your home library grows. GED Classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays

Thanks to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission Loan Star Libraries Grant and a partnership with the Literacy Council of Williamson County, we have GED classes for adults 17 and older who need to prepare for the GED exam (high school equivalency). Classes are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:15 - 8:45 and on Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:30. A one time $20 registration fee is required. Sign up at any class.

VOLUNTEERS FOR BOOK STORE NEEDED!

The Leander Library Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the Leander Public Library by providing assistance for enhanced resources and programs, is looking for volunteers to help run a used book store. The used book store will be located where the coffee shop used to be, across from the entrance to the library, and all proceeds will be used to purchase materials and fund programs for the library.

Volunteer duties will include sorting and stocking books, assisting customers, making coffee, and handling money transactions for the sale of books or other merchandise. Schedules will depend on volunteers' availability.

Computer Classes

We are offering an informal beginners computer class every Tuesday from 2-3 pm. Great for those needing help with specific questions or those just wanting to familiarize themselves with computers.

Leander Writers' Guild

Please join the Leander Writers' Guild on Tuesday, February 23rd, at 7:00 pm. We will be sharing stories and looking at some of the resources available to beginning writers in the Leander area.

Our purpose is to encourage the creative process of writing.
