Online Services

MAGNOLIA (Mississippi Alliance for Gaining New Opportunities Through Library Information Access), a statewide consortium funded by the Mississippi Legislature, provides online databases for publicly funded K-12 schools, public libraries, community college libraries and university libraries in Mississippi.

The MAGNOLIA databases have been of great benefit to the citizens of Mississippi since August 1997. Residents of Lee and Itawamba County should call 841-9013 or 862-4926 to obtain location IDs and/or passwords required to access the databases. Residents of other counties and communities should contact their local library for the necessary location IDs and/or passwords.

EBSCOhost is a powerful search & retrieval system that provides easy access to articles from hundreds of magazines, journals and other sources. Easy to follow, on-screen instructions guide you through the searching process, allowing you to find keywords within articles, or to browse subjects, titles and more.

MasterFILE Premier - Provides abstracts and indexing for more than 2,700 periodicals, plus searchable full text for more than 1,800 active periodicals. Subjects covered include general reference, business, health, multi-cultural and more. Total coverage includes over 4 million articles.

Newspaper Source - Selected full text from over 114 newspapers including The Christian Science Monitor, The New York Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, The Miami Herald, The San Jose Mercury News, etc. Also offers abstracts and indexing for the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today.

The Serials Directory - Provides the most up-to-date and accurate bibliographic information as well as current pricing structures for popular serials. Contains listings for over 150,000 U.S. and international titles, including 8,000 newspapers. Also includes data from over 87,000 publishers worldwide, including e-mail and Internet addresses.

ERIC - Provides citation and abstract information from over 750 educational journals and related documents from the Educational Resource Information Center and educational symposium report literature dating back to 1967.

Health Source Plus - Provides abstracts and indexing for over 520 consumer health, nutrition and professional periodicals. Over 240 periodicals are covered in full text as well as over 1,000 health pamphlets. Also included is USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient which provides patient-oriented drug information in lay language and 17 health books published by the People's Medical Society.

Academic Search FullTEXT Elite - Provides abstracts and indexing for over 3,100 scholarly journals covering the social sciences, humanities, education and more. Also offers full text for over 1,000 journals including 380 journals dating back to 1990. Total coverage includes over 3 million articles.

Business Source Elite - Provides comprehensive access to abstracts and indexing for 1500 titles, including The Wall Street Journal, plus searchable full text for over 770 business periodicals.

EBSCO Animals - Provides in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals.

MAS FullTEXT Premier - Provides abstracts and indexing for over 500 general interest and research magazines plus the searchable full text for 210 periodicals and thousands of Magill's Book Reviews. The earliest abstracts begin in 1984 and earliest full text in 1990.

Middle Search Plus - Provides abstracts and indexing for over 170 magazines, and searchable full text for over 52 of the most frequently used magazines in middle school libraries, including 115 pamphlets. Also offers Essential Documents of American History.

Primary Search - Provides the full text of over 40 magazines for young readers and abstracts and indexing for over 120 magazines. Primary Search is updated monthly and also includes Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, the World Almanac for Kids and the World Almanac of the USA.

Contemporary Literary Criticism Select
Contemporary Literary Criticism Select (CLC Select)- provides an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary writers. Each CLC Select entry also contains a biographical/critical introduction including pseudonyms and nationality, a listing of principal works, and sources for further study. Search options help you target the specific information you need. Search options include author name, author profile, titles, subject/themes, critics and critical sources. CLC Select also contains an integrated index to the entire Contemporary Literary Criticism print series.

General BusinessFile ASAP - covers more than 850 business, management, and trade journals, and includes business-related articles from over 3,000 other publications. Features full text of articles appearing in more than 400 sources. Includes descriptive information on more than 100,000 public and private U.S. companies(corresponds to Ward's Business Directory of U.S. Public and Private Companies). Covers 1981 to the present.

Predicasts PROMPT - contains information useful for researching companies, the products and technologies they produce, and the markets in which they compete. Includes summaries and full text from nearly 1,000 business, financial, and trade journals, industry newsletters, regional and national newspapers, market research studies, news releases, and investment and brokerage firm reports. Covers 1995 to the present.

FirstSearch

WorldCat - contains records of any type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. Includes manuscripts written as early as the 12th century.

ArticleFirst - indexes journals in science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture.

ContentsFirst - contains the complete table of contents pages and holdings information for journals in many fields.

Electronic Collections Online (ECO) - is a growing collection of journals in a variety of subject areas, all with full text articles available online. Articles are presented in page image formats (predominately PDF) that include all original content and images. The interface supports cross-journal searching and browsing within selected journals.Users can view bibliographic information for all journals and view full text articles from journals to which their institution subscribes.

FastDoc - is a collection of articles that have a high percentage of citations that can be ordered for online viewing or email delivery.

NetFirst - contains bibliographic citations including abstracts, subject headings, and classification codes. Includes a variety of Internet accessible resources including World Wide Web pages and Listservs.

UnionLists - contains holdings for journals and other covered items among OCLC member libraries. It can help individuals determine if a library holds a specific journal issue.
Wilson Biographies

Wilson Biographies contains the full text of 39,000 profiles of notable individuals taken from biographical reference works such as Current Biography, Junior Authors and Illustrators, World Artists, Nobel Prize Winners, and Spanish American Authors which are produced by the H. W. Wilson Company. The database is searchable by name, profession, place of origin, gender, race/ethnicity, date of birth, and keyword.
