Genealogy Clerk

Type of Position:

Qualifications / Experience:
Completion of high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving history.  Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Library Science or post-high school education with course work in Library Science and relevant library experience is preferred. Must have high level of comfort with research and ability to conduct field research.

Possible Desk Coverage:
Weekdays, weeknights and/or weekends

Dependent on education and experience

Job Duties:
Under the supervision of the Director/Assistant Director, the Genealogy Clerk performs specialized tasks related to the Genealogical services, which includes, but not limited to, family research, local history, etc. The Genealogy Clerk oversees the organization and collection maintenance of the Genealogy Room and interacts with both the public and staff in a warm and welcoming manner.

• Provides public reference assistance regarding Genealogy and local history questions
• Operates and helps the public operate microfilm reader and oversee careful use of microfilm collection
• Utilizes online databases as well as print and non-print resources for research purposes
• Maintains and organize Genealogy Room materials and Kentucky section
• Assists in promotion of Genealogical library resources and services
• Assists in acquisition of Genealogy and local historical materials
• Shelves library materials, maintains shelf order, and shifts library materials as needed or directed
• Maintains Visitor Registry for in-house use
• Maintains Licking Valley Courier online subscription in cooperation with Director
• Maintains Genealogy records and files of patron requests
• Maintains obituary books and personal collections, donations, census records, etc.
• Makes familiarity with Genealogical materials a priority
• Performs field research upon patron request and approval by Director/Assistant Director
• Performs other duties as assigned by Director/Assistant Director

Additional Responsibilities: Opening and closing procedures, walkthrough procedures, general organization/cleanliness and library event attendance as directed by Director/Assistant Director
