Very mysterious things are happening at the library! Our Summer Reading Program is about to begin. Our theme this year is, “Get a Clue at Your Library!”, and all of our activities will revolve around the themes of mystery and crime solving. The program will run from July 16 through August 17.

We’re extending to five weeks this year so we can fit everything in. As always, young patrons will have a reading goal each week, for which they earn small prizes, and tickets toward our end-of-program drawing, and we will also have a scheduled activity each week, including a movie day, a day at the park, and a craft day, along with a visit by Kelly Smith, the Cacapon State Park naturalist, and also a K-9 demonstration by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

Usually, the prizes are displayed in the case in front of the check-out desk, but in keeping with the mystery theme, all prizes will be.......a mystery!!! Even the grand prize will be a surprise, but, as always, will include a United States Savings Bond. We will have two grand prizes this year - one for ages five and under, and one for ages six and up.

In response to numerous requests, we’ve also added an adult program! It will be geared toward our patrons age 15 and up. As with our younger participants, adult patrons will have a weekly reading goal and receive tickets toward a drawing for mystery theme book prizes, and a chance at winning our grand prize - provided by a generous grant from the WV Library Commission - one of twenty five pairs of tickets to a Mystery Theater at the Castle, which will be held on Saturday, August 18. Extra credit quizzes earn “Porch Bucks” that can be used to buy books from our porch sale.

Sign-up for “Get a Clue at Your Library” will begin on Monday, July 9, and the program will begin on Monday, July 16. Weekly events will usually be on a Thursday, with the exception of the week of August 2. That week, the program will be on Monday, July 29. All scheduled activities are at 2:00 unless otherwise stated on the schedule. The drawing for our final prizes will be at 4:00 on Saturday, August 18 at the gazebo in Berkeley Springs State Park. .

Thursday Story Time is still going strong. Every Thursday at 11:00 am, come hear Ms. Debra tell wonderful stories, and do fun crafts! This is for any child, regardless of age. Parents are required to stay with their children. This is also a great time to teach your child about good Library Etiquette.
