How long may a book be checked out?
Circulating Books are checked out for 4 weeks; with one 4-week renewal if there are no hold requests. What happens when a book is overdue? A book is overdue if not returned or renewed by its due date. One renewal may be made online or by phone, if the book is not on hold for someone else. After one renewal, the book must be brought to the library, and may be checked out again if there are no holds on it. What happens if a book is lost? If a book is lost, please inform the Library as soon as possible. You will be charged a $40 fee for the book. A hold will be placed on grades, transcripts, and registration until fees have been paid or materials returned. What type of cataloging system does the Library use? The Library uses the Library of Congress Cataloging System. May Videos and Audios be checked out? Circulating videos and audios may be checked out for 10 days. A limit of 2 of each type (VHS and DVD) may be checked out at one time. Videos on Reference or Reserve are for use in-Library only and may be viewed in 3 library video rooms. Videos are listed by title and subject in the library catalog. The Library also subscribes to a Classical Music online service with which can be accessed from any internet connection. Where are the Reserved Materials located? Reserved materials are located behind the circulation desk. Instructors will reserve materials when they wish the entire class to read, copy, or view pertinent information. To view reserved material, ask at the Circulation Desk. Where are the Reference Materials located? The Reference Section is located in front of the Circulation Desk on the lower shelves. Reference Books are identified by REF and a red or purple dot on the book and the words "Reference Only" stamped inside. Reference materials may not be checked out -- they are for in Library use only. May magazines and journals be checked out? Hard-copy magazines, journals, newspapers and other periodicals may not be checked out. They are for in-Library use only. You may make copies of hard-copy articles at a cost of 10 cents/page. The Library subscribes to many online periodical databases, which provide full-text articles that may be printed or saved electronically. These online databases are available from school or off-campus at the NPCC Library website. Please ask a Librarian for assistance, if needed. What Newspapers are available? The Library subscribes to the following newspapers: Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, The Sentinel Record, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, and the Washington Post National Weekly. The Library keeps back issues for 2-weeks, with the exception of The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette which is kept until a microfilm version is received. The Library has access to many more newspapers through online databases These provide full-text articles that may be printed or saved electronically. These online databases are available from school or off-campus at the NPCC Library website. Please ask a Librarian for assistance, if needed. Is there a cost for using the Internet or any restrictions regarding the use of the Internet? There is no cost for using the Internet, however priority will be given to students working on class assignments. There is a time limit of 30 minutes when other students are waiting. When using the Internet, keep in mind that privacy is not available and certain materials may be offensive to others. We also ask that set-up and configurations not be changed. Doing so will result in the loss of computer privileges. Are there computers available for word processing? The computers are available for word processing so long as they are not needed for Internet use. |
