The OCPL will be closed on Monday, February 15 in observance of Washington's Birthday or "Presidents' Day"

Weather information: As a part of Oconee County government, OCPL will close if it is announced that Oconee government offices are closed. Announcements are made on WYFF News 4 television, WGOG radio and other local outlets. Please be aware that closing signs may not be posted at individual branches.

Food for Fines

Starting February 8th and running through February 14th, the OCPL will be collecting canned goods and other non-perishable foods in lieu of fines. The amount waived will be no more than $5 total per account, and we are asking one item per $1 of fines waived. So for each $1 of fines you would like waived, please one can of food, bag of rice, etc. Please make sure the item is not beyond expiration. Lost books/materials cannot be waived. Of course, if you have no fines but wish to contribute non-perishable food items we welcome that, too!

Let's Talk About It book discussion, Spring 2010

UPDATE: The series for Let's Talk About It, Spring 2010 edition, has been modified. Remaining dates are March 11th and April 22nd. It will still be held at the Seneca branch. The books are to be announced soon, but will not be based on the originally planned LTAI books for Spring, 2010.

OCPL Youth Services Librarian chosen as SC representative to national conference

The South Carolina State Library announced that Christin Hirleman has been selected to attend the 2010 National Conference for the Collaborative Summer Library Program in Tacoma, Washington in April. Forty eight states participate in this conference where the artists and products for the 2011 Summer Library Program for children, teens and adults will be decided. Denise Lyons, Library Development Consultant for the South Carolina State Library, says this was a difficult decision as there were many qualified applicants. “We think Christin will be a wonderful ambassador for children’s services and look forward to what she will bring back to other children’s librarians in South Carolina.” Congratulations, Christin! Online Job Searching Class

Most employers require online applications these days, and you can't even get that far without first having a valid email account. The Seneca Library will be hosting an online job searching class on Thursday, February 18th at 6:30. This basic class will teach you how to complete online job applications and set up a simple email account using free providers such as Yahoo! or Google. Advanced registration is requested but not required. The class will be limited to the first 20 participants.
