In Celebration of African American History Month • Feb 1- Feb 28 - Exhibit - “Africanative in Post Racial America (Not)” works of Dana Chandler, tenured Professor at Simmons College, Massachusetts where he taught art and art history for 32 years. His paintings can be found in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.Saturday, February 6th - 1 – 3pm - Reception for Professor Chandler and the exhibit will be held. At 3pm - The Professor will discuss both his work and experiences in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.• Wednesday, Feb 10th – 6:30pm, Book Discussion:The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Book is available at the Library for check out. Registration is requested• Saturday, Feb 13th – 2:00pm, Film Program:Malcolm X, staring Denzel Washington• Thursday, Feb 18th – 7:00pm – African Instruments with Camilla Dodson. This inter-active program explores the role of music and the drum in African society. Ms. Dodson is the daughter of a Lesotho Chief and was one of 5 people invited to speak when Nelson Mandela returned to Cape Town after 27 years in prison .Partially funded by the NMHC. A reception will follow.
