We are now able to offer Wi-Fi hotspots! Users (ages 18 and older) with a Portland Public Library card that has been active for at least 30 days may borrow a FREE hotspot. The loan period for hotspots is 7 days, and if there is no wait list, they may be renewed for an additional 7-day period. Hotspot holds and check-outs are limited to one per household. Children’s Programs
LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30am)
These are programs for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary). The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes, and fingerplays.
January 6th - Cuddle Up Day! Stories, rhymes, & songs about hugs and cuddles.
January 13th - Sticker & Rubber Ducky Day! Stories & songs about ducks, & stickers.
January 20th – Cheese Lover’s Day! Can we find stories about cheese – or foods with cheese (like cheese pizza)?
January 27th – Chocolate Cake Day! NO, we will not be eating chocolate cake, but we will have stories, rhymes, & songs about cake
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME for 3 to 5 year olds (Wednesday mornings at 10:30am)
January 4th - Ocean jobs. There are many jobs to do; what would you choose? Stories, music, movement, & coloring.
January 11th – Taking care of our Oceans. Take out the Trash! Stories, songs & movement. We’ll use leftovers from past projects and “trash” to create something from the imagination.
January 18th – We’ll hear about some interesting people who love oceans. Fun stories, activities, and a coloring page.
January 25th – Sharks! What if there weren’t any? Some fun shark books, shark songs, activities, and a shark craft project

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM for Kindergarten & older (Wednesday Afternoons at 3:30pm)
January 4th– Guest Reader Mr. Chip Arnold shares a story about a house. What story would your house tell?
January 11th – STEAM Book Club begins this week. Alice in Wonderland – Chapter 1 & 2. Then, levitate paperclips and stretch a paper plate!
January 18th- STEAM Book Club – Chapter 3 & 4. Make a word picture & a fancy paper fan. Plus, take home some info on home activities.
January 25th– STEAM Book Club – Chapter 5 & 6. Floating arms & flipbooks! In addition, take home information on projects to do at home
***Family Movie Matinee: No movie this month
Fellowship of the Teens for Middle and High Schoolers (Thursdays 4:00-5:00 pm)
January 5th – Jackbox Games Bring your device and play Jackbox games! We have some devices that can be used as well.
January 12th – Post It Art & Origami Join us in the community room to use your creativity.
January 19th – Bookish Games We’ll be playing book themed games. Bring a book you are reading, or have read, so you can discuss it with others & play the games.
January 26th - Puzzles Come try out the library’s new puzzles. .
ADULTS
Bingo
Every Tuesday @ 1:00 in the Community Room - Join in the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out “BINGO.” There will be candy and snack prizes for the winner. The last game of the day is the “Cover All” where the winner walks away with a gift card that can be used locally.
Genealogy Club
Saturday, January 7th @ 10:00am in the community room - This month Paula will be focusing on a membership booklet belonging to Franklin Forsythe Bain from the Merchant & Airliner Organization. Research will be done to try to find relatives or a museum that would want it.
Veteran’s Representative
Wednesday, January 4th 1:00 to 3:00 in a Study Room - A rep from the Sumner County Veteran’s Service Office will be available to help any veteran or veteran’s spouse with questions or filling out of forms. No appointment necessary. First come, first serve basis.
Page Turners Book Club
Thursday, January 19th 11:30 - 1:00pm in the Community Room - Ms. Patricia leads this group of book readers in a discussion of this month’s chosen book,The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper.
Adult Make and Take Craft Time
Tuesday, January 17th, 2:30 - 3:30pm in the Community Room - Sign up to make a craft with us this month. There is a limit of 10 on a first come basis. This month’s craft will feature Ms. Kim using paper products to make a candy bar cover & a card.
