Any resident of Sumner County can apply for a library card. Photo identification and proof of your current mailing address are required. Students under the age of 16 require a parent or guardian’s signature on their application.
Acceptable examples of Photo ID are: Valid Tennessee driver’s license, Valid Passport, Work ID with photo, School ID with photo, or Credit Card with photo. Acceptable examples of Address verification are : Valid Tennessee driver’s license, Current month utility bill, current year vehicle registration, Printed mail (not hand written) postmarked within 14 days, or printed personal check.
Library cards are issued in two forms. The wallet card is free; a key card costs $1.00. You can also get the combination wallet and key card for $1.00. There will be a $2.00 charge for a new card issued to replace one that has been lost or stolen. Remember, you must present your library card whenever checking out materials, including the computers.
On your first visit, you may only check out two books and/or use a computer; but not videos or educational materials from the EDU section. After that, you may check out as many books, audio books, videos, music cds and magazines as you like — up to the limit the library has set on your card.
There are 19 computers available for high speed internet access with the Microsoft Office 2003 Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Access). Once you check out the computer with your library card, you will have an hour of use, once a day. Children under 18 must have a permission form completed by parent and those under 15 must have parent supervision at the computer.
The library makes every effort to make available current and up to date material for patrons of all ages and have them classified in adult, young adult, juvenile, and the children’s departments.
Items of interest for all ages that are available for check include books, fiction and non-fiction – paperbacks – magazines -- audio books on cd and cassette tape -- music cd’s -- videos on DVD and VHS -- educational materials and materials for Spanish speaking patrons
Items available for use within the library are reference books – newspapers -- Tennessee History books -- Computers with Internet Access and Microsoft Office -- Wireless Internet – Typewriter -- Study Areas -- Independent Study Room and Conference Room
- Books, Audio Books, Magazines, and Music CD’s check out for two weeks and can be renewed once.
- DVDs are no charge and check out for one week.
- Videos on VHS tape are no charge and check out for one week.
- Educational items check out on an adult’s card for 30 days (limit 2) and cannot be renewed.
- Because other patrons are anxious to read them, new titles cannot be renewed if on reserve.
- The library reserves the right to limit the number of holiday books and books on one subject that a patron may check out at one time.
- Students under the age of 18 will not be able to borrow videos without a parents consent.
