  • For the younger patrons, there is a children's area within the library with books, sound recordings and other materials. Crayons and coloring pages are provided, plus a variety toys and puppets to capture a child's imagination.

Children's Programming: Currently, the library offers several programs for children. There is a lap-sit program for infants and toddlers and their caregivers. For pre-schoolers, there are story hours. These can include stories, finger plays, poems, songs, craft projects or games. For older students, there are story sessions followed by a craft or activity.

    Scheduled Hours Preschool:
    • 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday.
    • After School Program: 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday.
    • Lap-sit: 10:30 a.m. each Friday.

Summer Reading Program is offered to children to encourage reading for fun. It begins on June 1st and is free to everyone. Prizes and awards are given as well as providing weekly programs and/or activities to give kids fun experiences at the library. Initially, the program was strictly for toddlers through elementary school students. For the past several years, the program was expanded to offer something for everyone including adults.

Unique to our library is the Educational Center, which provides interactive materials designed for pre-school age through 8th graders. Our curricula cover subjects that teach reading, math, science, music, art, language arts, foreign languages and English as a second language. There are experimental projects in such things as weather, space, science, geography and history. The materials are available to teachers for use in their classrooms, to parents who will work with their children, to homeschoolers, and to all children who want to learn. The Center's state-of-the-art materials include leap pads, many different games, videos, computer CDs, musical instruments and interactive learning supplies.
