Our automated catalog enables us to serve patrons better by offering more information about an item when doing a search. Patrons may also place an item on reserve when it is checked out to another patron. The automated catalog also can be used from a remote site computer by accessing the library’s webpage – www.scplibrary.net.

The Library also provides additional reference information to patrons through the subscription of databases through the library’s website. They include: Chilton’s Auto Repair Manual, LearnATest (practice tests for SAT, ACT, GMAT, Civil Service Careers, GED etc.) Heritage Quest, Sanborn Maps and Online Homework Help in real time.

The Shelby County Public Library provides public access to the Internet as another resource to meet the informational needs of its patrons. All Internet users must read and sign an Internet agreement before use. A photo ID is required and the user must be 16 years of age. A guardian to use the Internet must accompany persons under 16 years of age. A librarian can access the Internet for reference information for students under 16 years of age.

Wireless access is available to laptop or PDA users. The Internet Users policy must also be signed for use of the wireless service.

Computers are also provided for word processing and educational learning games in the Children’s Services area.
