Did you know that genealogy is the third fastest growing hobby in the United States? We have relocated our genealogy materials to our new 2008 addition to allow for expansion of this special collection for many years to come. A new copy machine, a digitial microfilm reader/printer and large tables have also been added to this area.

Thinking of tracing your family tree? It is recommended you read books on the basics of genealogy and start collecting information about your family. Talk to your relatives, go to family reunions, find out what organizations they belonged to, recall family stories etc.

The Library subscribes to several online genealogy databases that you can use from your home computer.

They are:

HERITAGE QUEST includes census records, a collection of 25,000 family and local histories in full text and searchable and comprehensive subject index to 6,500 genealogy and local historical society publications from the United States and Canada.

SANBORN MAPS 1867-1970 provides digitial access to more than 660,000 large scale maps of more than 12,000 American towns and cities.

A recent addition to our online databases is ANCESTRY LIBRARY EDITION. This database is available only on inhouse Library computers. It provides over 5 billion records in census data, vital records, immigration records, periodicals books, photos and more!

Visting the Library you will find the majority of our genealogy collection focuses on the Commonwealth of Kentucky. There are some resources from our "parent" the Commonwealth of Virginia.
