Southside Regional Library serves Mecklenburg and Lunenburg Counties in Southside Virginia. It became a regional system in 1944, the first in the state. It is funded through State Aid, County and Town Appropriations, and Federal Grants as well as individual donations and support from Friends of the Library Groups. The buildings are owned and maintained either by the Friends Groups, the local towns, or the County.
The system maintains a collection of approximately 135,000 books, audios, videos, and periodicals. Each branch has multiple computers equipped with high-speed internet access available for public use.
