Butler Memorial Library is located in Chase City. It was built in 1982 and has subsequently undergone a 1,024 square-foot addition which houses the children’s collection. Both the original building and the addition were funded as a community effort by the Friends of the Library. The Library is open seven days a week and maintains a collection in excess of 24,000 items including books, audios, videos, and periodicals. It is equipped with high-speed internet access and has several computers available for public use. A meeting room is available to non-profit public gatherings of a civic, cultural, or educational nature. The library operates as one of six branches of the Southside Regional Library System which maintains a website at www.srlib.org where patrons can browse the on-line catalog, read reviews of current best sellers, and access hundreds of links to reference materials and electronic resources.
