This compilation of family-friendly STEAM experiments comes from the host of Emily's Wonder Lab (Netflix). Fifty projects have been sorted into categories such as “Glam, Glitz, and Glow” (Egg Geodes, Glowing Jellyfish) and “Science with Friends” (Secret Friendship Notes, Magic Slime Painting). Each includes background information, materials, safety instructions, straightforward step-by-step directions, Q & A-format explanations of science principles, and follow-up content (biographical profiles of STEAM superstars, amazing facts, everyday applications, historic breakthroughs, etc.). Vibrant graphics, illustrations, and flowcharts appear on every page. The back matter includes a glossary and shopping list (all the experiments are suitable for home or classroom; most can be completed with basic household supplies, while occasional ingredients like thermochromic powder are readily available online). Activities appropriate for very young kids (age five and under) are earmarked, and while some experiments involving fire or sharp objects clearly require adult supervision, others can be performed independently by fourth-graders and up (and if anyone gets stuck, check out the YouTube demo videos). This will perk up public and school library STEAM collections.
