Mayville Heights' library director Kathleen Paulson is busy organizing and hosting a fundraiser for a reading program when a guest drops dead at the gala. The victim turns out to be the ex-wife of the local bad boy who had not lived in town for years. With the help of her mischievous cats, Hercules and Owen, who have a mysterious instinct for sleuthing, Kathleen and her detective boyfriend, Marcus Gordon, find themselves at cross-purposes as they try to figure out who did it. VERDICT With its charming small-town setting and quirky characters, Kelly's sixth series entry (after Final Catcall) offers another easy and pleasant read.
