This bilingual nonfiction picture book uses music to teach young learners about fire trucks and the people who work with them. Inclusive digital illustrations show firefighters of all ethnicities and genders rushing to a fire with sirens blaring ""Wee-oo! / ˇNiinoo!"" and working as a team to extinguish the flames and save people's lives. The text is printed in English on the left-hand page, with the Spanish appearing on the right, generally retaining the intended song's rhythm and rhyme. A QR code allows users to download or stream the song, both with and without words, while sheet music and lyrics are appended. Educators, parents, and caregivers receive support from the book's Tips to support literacy at home, which features five helpful examples for leading a storytime and keeping listeners' attention.--Rosie Camargo Copyright 2010 Booklist

PreS-Gr 2-Singing along to books encourages early literacy skills in a way that simply reading text cannot. This bilingual series on six common vehicles and machines provides readers with a sound-filled reading experience and includes an optional musical sing-along element that can be accessed online. English and Spanish text appear on separate pages, punctuated by vibrant, playful illustrations that mimic each machine's sound. New vocabulary terms are bolded throughout and reviewed in a glossary at the end of each book. Lyrics in both English and Spanish are provided and correspond to the online resource. An instrumental-only version is provided for additional flexibility. Also included: tips for building early literacy at home and questions for comprehension. VERDICT An easy and fun way to incorporate singing into classroom and library read-alouds; consider for large collections or where multimedia titles are in demand. © Copyright 2019.
