A person can place holds on books in person, over the phone, or over the Internet.
In Person
Either fill out a reserve slip and put it in the box by the online catalog or hand it in at the main circulation desk, or ask at the main desk and, if we have the book, the librarian can put the hold into the computer immediately.
Over the Phone
Call the library at 625-1370 and ask for the main desk. Give the librarian your name and the title of the book you want placed on hold. If the book is currently available the librarian will get it off the shelf and hold it for a maximum of 3 days at the desk, otherwise a reserve slip will be filled out or the hold placed in the computer.
Over the Internet
To place holds over the Internet you must have a valid library card (no fines or overdue materials, card not expired) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). You may obtain a PIN by phoning or coming into the library. The PIN is a number of your choice, 4 to 8 digits long, and it should be something you can remember because the library does not keep a record of patrons' PINs. If you should forget your PIN you will need to phone the library and request another one.
When performing a search in the online catalog, click on the TITLE of an item you are interested in. You will be taken to a page with the item information contained in a blue square. Above the blue square will be a row of round buttons. Click on the button that says Hold Request. This will take you to a screen which will ask you to enter your Patron ID Number and your PIN. Your Patron ID is your library card number- 14 digits long with no spaces. Enter this information and click Submit Request. You will be taken to a screen which will tell you whether or not your hold was placed successfully. If your hold was placed and the computer said the item was available, please wait 24 hours before coming to pick up your item. The library is not responsible if you come in sooner than 24 hours and the book you requested is not on the hold shelf.
Also, please remember that while the computer may say that the item is available, it is still possible that the book may be missing or for some other reason not on the shelf.
