How We Came To Be
The Stevens County Rural Library District was formed by a resolution ot the County Commissioners on November 26, 1996. A grassroots group of library enthusiasts called Friends of County Library, successfully placed a measure on the ballot asking voters whether they wanted a rural library district. The people responded with a resounding 65% yes vote and the new district was born. In early 1997, the Commissioners appointed a five-member Board of Trustees who set up a District office in a shred space and planned library services. In May of 1998 the District's first director, Regan Robinson was hired. She has hired additional staff and arranged library services throughout the county. The District office is at 4000 Cedar St., Loon Lake, WA
