REPORTS
Treasurer’s Report
Julie Feely provided copies of the current Treasurer’s Report dated October 2009. The current balance to-date is $19,700.91 reflecting assets of $24,251.37 and liabilities of $4,550.46. A detailed copy of the report is filed and available for review in the Friends file.

Librarian’s Report
Furloughs have been implemented in various general fund departments including the library. The payroll lag was not approved although two of the represented unions voted in favor of it. Therefore, the payroll lag will not be implemented because the Auditor’s office is unable to run various payrolls due to staffing shortages. The furlough affects only the librarian’s position and not the part-time staff as confirmed with the CAO in September. Although various departments have closure days, most notably the courthouse being closed on the first Friday each month, there is no effect on library patrons since the library is always closed on Fridays.

Interviews for the library assistant position were conducted by Oresta and Jan on October 2nd in Hayfork with three candidates invited to interview. After careful consideration, consultation, and checking of references, the job has been offered to two current employees as a job sharing situation: Andrea Samara and Nancy Ferguson. The paperwork has been submitted to the Personnel office and the employees are scheduled to begin job sharing next week. Nancy is already reorganizing the files and work areas and has submitted several good ideas for reorganizing the patron use areas.

The Trinity County Library was represented at a meeting to discuss cataloging, scanning, and archiving documents related to the Trinity River Basin on October 9th. Since our collection here is no longer accessible electronically, it was important to seek an alternative collaborative avenue to provide public access to our documents without a cost and staffing impact on this library. Oresta offered to assist this project in any capacity necessary to ensure that the Trinity documents are included. A follow-up meeting is planned for November 12th.

The first Family Story Time program is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28th at 3:30 pm. and will feature a guest story reader, crafts, and treats for everyone. Supplies were purchased with Target grant funding.

OLD BUSINESS
The documents forming the Trinity River Basin collection in the library were discussed in the Librarian’s report above and a lengthy discussion followed regarding the Resource Conservation District (RCD), the Trinity River Restoration Program (TRRP), and any future public programs that the Friends might wish to sponsor with these local agencies.
NEW BUSINESS
The membership discussed the Hayfork Branch Library cleaning needs, Andrea’s hours at the Hayfork Library and the Technical Services Assistant contract at the Weaverville Library. There was a discussion on memorial funds, and the placement in the library of a plaque and picture of Ruth Brandes. Mark will send a letter to the family thanking them for their contribution. A motion was made and seconded to establish a “Ruth Brandes Memorial Fund”. The renewal of purchasing 2 new books each month funded by the Friends was discussed and motion was made and seconded to continue doing so for another year. Mark informed the group that he was approached by one of the supervisors suggesting that the meeting room needed painting.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 4:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted by Andrea Samara and reviewed by Oresta Esquibel 11/13/09
