Genealogy classes Kathleen Shafer and Leanne Keefer Bechdel will offer free one-on-one genealogy classes at The Public Library for Union County on several dates in November. The one-hour classes are appropriate for all ages, including school children with reading and computer skills. The sessions will address individual needs, from beginning a genealogical search to finding a missing ancestor for a family tree.
Kathleen Shafer is Regent of the Shikelimo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a certified DAR field genealogist and a past chapter registrar, as well as a member of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, the First Families of Pennsylvania, the Warrior Run-Ft. Freeland Historical Society, the Gloucester County Historical Society, the Warren County Historical Society in New Jersey, and she is president of the Annabelle Vorse Clark Tent #60 of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Leanne Keefer Bechdel is senior president of the Regina Hartman Society of the Children of the American Revolution in Union County. The group is sponsored by Shikelimo Chapter DAR, of which Bechdel is also a member. She is very active in the Find A Grave program and is a member of Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and the Warrior Run-Ft Freeland Historical Society.
Residents who are interested in attending a genealogy class must sign up for a specific date and time. To register, call 523-1172 or visit the library at 255 Reitz Blvd. in Lewisburg. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
