Mission Statement
The objective of mobile library service is to take library materials and services to residents of Williamsburg County who do not live within reasonable distance of the headquarters or branch library.
Relationship to Entire Library SystemThe mobile library will operate as an integral part of the library system. In so far as possible, registration, circulation, and other procedures will be consistent with the practices of the main library.
SchedulesThe mobile library schedule will be arranged to provide service to the largest number of citizens, as efficiently as possible.
- The mobile library will maintain a regular schedule of stops at intervals weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly depending upon areas served.
- In so far as possible, mobile library stops will be located in community centers, where it possible to serve the maximum number of patrons.
- The mobile library will schedule stops for service to childcare centers such as nurseries and day care centers with concentration on serving the maximum number of children.
- The mobile library will schedule stops for service to nursing homes with concentration on serving the maximum numbers of seniors.
- Mobile library stops will be of sufficient length to permit borrowers to select and check out books without undue haste.
- Requests to establish new mobile library stops will be considered on the basis of the area and population.
- An institutional card will be used by day care centers, nursing homes and other organizations using the mobile library.
- The mobile library will not schedule stops for service to schools.
Materials selected for use by mobile library patrons will follow the same selection criteria set forth in the Selection Policy passed by the Williamsburg County Library Board.
For the most part books will be drawn from the main collection. All circulating materials in the system will be available through the mobile library; special requests will be encouraged and honored.
The Williamsburg County Circulation Policy will govern mobile library circulation of materials. The only exception will be that fines will not be charged for books or videos returned late.
