Wilson County Public Library Membership Policy

Statement of Policy
Customers are welcome to use any location of the Wilson County Public Library for reading, obtaining information from librarians, engaging in research, and attending programs.  A library card is necessary to use computers, and to check out books, films, magazines, and other library materials, and to reserve meeting space.  In order to qualify for a library card, the following terms and conditions must be met.

Membership Terms and Conditions
Library cards are free to those currently residing in the U.S.  Residents are entitled to one Wilson County Public Library card account.
All materials borrowed must be returned or renewed on or before the due date to avoid the accrual of fines.  All Wilson County Public Library locations may be used to return materials, pickup holds, and pay fines and fees.   Holds may be placed and materials renewed online at

How to Apply
Visit any of our locations to apply for a card.  You will need to bring photo identification.
When you get your library card, you will also receive a confidential PIN.  With your card number and PIN you will be able to:

• Use the Library’s self-check machines
• Download eBooks
• Check your account and renew your books online
• Place holds on books online to be picked up at any location
• Search a variety of databases
• Reserve meeting space
• Use computers at the library

Please report change of name or address information promptly.
Children ages 0-12 must have their application completed and signed by a parent or guardian, who can provide the above identification/address validation on their child's behalf.  Parents/guardians are responsible for the lost or overdue materials borrowed by their children
Teens age 13 through 17 must present photo identification that indicates their age to obtain a library card, or a parent/guardian may verify his/her child's age in the absence of identification.  Teen borrowers have access to the same library resources as Adult borrowers.

Renewing Your Library Card
Library cards expire and must be renewed every two years in order to use the resources listed above.  Cardholder expiration dates are visible in the My Account section of the Library’s website when you login with your library card number and PIN.
Expired cards must be renewed for continued access to Library resources.  Renew your card at any library location by presenting your Library card or photo ID.

Linking Accounts
Applicants for a library card are given the option to "link" their account to another customer.  This service allows increased ease of navigation between cardholders belonging to the same family.  Note that linking accounts is solely intended to expedite circulation transactions by allowing for quick navigation between one linked record and the next.  Linking accounts does not give a customer the ability to view, request or borrow items on a card belonging to someone to whom they are linked.
If you would like to authorize someone else to collect your held items, you must first confirm this in person with a Library staff member.  A note stating the name of the person who will pick up your holds will then be placed on the records of both customers. This applies only to active hold requests, not additional checkouts on the card.

Lost and Replacement Library Cards
When you register for a library card, you accept responsibility for all items on the card, all use made of the card and all charges made against it until your card is reported lost.  You may report a lost card by phone or in person at any Library location.  Cards will be replaced free of charge.

Library Notices
The Library provides notification for held items, overdue materials and other service-specific reasons. Notices are available via regular mail, e-mail, telephone, or text message.  Cardholders are required to select a notice preference and provide valid contact information.   It is the responsibility of the borrower to notify the Library if any of their contact information changes. Library notices are sent as a courtesy.
Note: Failure to receive a notice does not absolve the borrower from any fines or fees attached to their Library account.
