Statement of Policy

The purpose of this policy is to fully comply with North Carolina General Statutes regarding the receipt by the Wilson County Public Library of grant funds disbursed by the State Library of North Carolina and other state agencies. (N.C.G.S. § 143C-6-23) The policy seeks to address conflicts of interest that may arise involving the grantee’s management employees and members of its board.  Article V, Section 4, of the Wilson County Personnel Resolution addresses employee conflicts of interest.  This policy includes the conduct of members of the Wilson County Public Library Board of Trustees, as well as Library staff.

Library Board of Trustees Members and Employees

No member of the Wilson County Public Library Board of Trustees shall derive any personal profit or gain, directly or indirectly, by reason of his or her participation on the Board.  Other than compensation, no employee shall derive any personal profit or gain, directly or indirectly, by reason of his or her employment by the Wilson County Public Library except through activities that may facilitate professional advancement or contribute to the profession, such as publications and professional services that have been fully disclosed to the Board of Trustees.

Each Board of Trustees member shall disclose to the Board any personal interest which he or she may have in any matter pending before the Board and shall refrain from participation in any decision on such matter.

Members of Wilson County Public Library Board of Trustees, committees, and staff shall refrain from obtaining any list of library patrons the use of which results in personal benefit.
