Won Library is the only library of its parent institution, the Won Institute of Graduate Studies. The mission of the Won Institute is to cultivate spirituality through education and training for the benefit of society as a balance to materialism and technological advances. Currently, it is offering two graduate programs (Applied Meditation Studies and Won Buddhist Studies) devoted to the systematic study and practical application of the mind/body/spirit connection within Buddhist perspective and theory. Library resources support masters-level study in those two areas. Subject area strengths are: Buddhism in general, Won Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, meditation, Asian philosophies and religions, American Buddhism, and alternative/Chinese medicine. Library's collection includes both English and Korean language materials.
The mission of Won Library is to support and enhance Won Institute's instructional and research activities by providing high quality information services for its students, faculty, and staff.
In fulfilling this mission, the Library staff strives to achieve the following goals:
- To select, acquire, organize and preserve information resources necessary to meet current and future needs of library users
- To provide access to and delivery of information when and where needed and in the appropriate format
- To provide training in the use of information resources and technology to enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship and to improve productivity and service quality.
- To actively promote library and information services and resources to faculty, students, and staff.
- To cooperate with other libraries through interlibrary loans
- To keep library adequately staffed with professional people as many hours as possible.
