About Greenwood Children's Programs

The Children's Room offers many types of programs for children starting at birth and continuing though 5th Grade. We offer three different storytimes as well as, crafts, storywalks, STEAM programs. Below we have outlined our programs based on age range. Don't forget to check out our programs and events for all ages as well.

Tiny Tot StoryTime In Person Program

When, Where, and Who:

About:
Bring your baby or toddler to Tiny Tot Storytime! This short storytime runs about 15-20 mins. It's perfect for little ones who are learning to sit and listen to a story. We also incorporate beginning fingerplays and songs to strengthen hand/eye coordination, language, and motor skills. 
 
 
How to Register:
Registration is REQUIRED. Due to COVID, sign up will be limited to a small number of children and one caregiver per family. Masks are required for all adults and children 3 and over to attend these programs. Sign up at the Children's Desk in the Children's Room.

Join us as our littlest story timers explore the season of winter with a delightful rabbit.  Our littlest guests will learn our new welcome song as well as read Winter Rabbit by Patrick Yee

Tiny Tots will enjoy a counting book about 10 puppies playing in the snow. 

February

Thursday, February 3

Our littlest story time friends will enjoy some teddy bear time singing and reading together. We will read Corduroy Goes to the Doctor - a story about a little bear who goes to the doctor for a check up.

Thursday, February 10

Come hear a sweet story about a little girl who is trying to find a special Valentine for her Mommy.

Thursday, February 17

A story about how parents lovingly and calmly help their little ones wind down at night and get ready for bed.

   


StoryTime with Ms. Jody In Person Program

When, Where, and Who:
The following Wednesdays at 10:30 AM
Children's Story Room
3 Year Olds - 2nd Grade

About:
Storytime with Ms. Jody has been specifically created for children from 3 years old to second grade. This storytime runs around 30-45 mins. and is great for children who are used to sitting still and listening to multiple stories. We also try to incorperate more advanced fingerplays and songs to engage children and show them that reading is fun! Early literacy is key in developing learning and social skills that lead children to be sucessful in school and life.

Wednesday, January 19

Enjoy a morning story time with children and caregivers as we read about adventures in the snow. We will read, sing and learn a new fingerplay.

Wednesday, January 26

We will read some special selections about polar animals and take home a fun penguin craft. We will have a good time singing some fun songs to get the winter wiggles out.

Today we will celebrate the fun of numbers and counting. Counting along in stories as well as counting with fingerplays, counting forwards and even backwards.

Wednesday, February 9

Join us for our Valentine's Day story time with a funny story about squirrels in love, sweet fingerplays and the classic song - "A Tisket, a Tasket" plus a whole lot more. Love will definitely be in the air!

Wednesday, February 16

At today's storytime we will have a very special guest to help us read about one of our favorite pets of all - dogs. A therapy dog will join us as we read about all the things therapy dogs have to learn and do. We will also add some funny dog stories and have a flannel board story about a dog named BINGO.

Wednesday, February 23

We will explore the joy and adventure of cats and kittens with today's story time. We will have a cat puppet come to life in a cute story that tells about a little girl who wants to be fast friends with a cat named Herbert who isn't feeling so friendly. As always- songs, movement and fingerplays to go with our theme.

Let's explore Colors in English and Spanish with our friend Ms. Abbie. Our story time will begin with a darling story about a little girl prefers speaking Spanish but knows she must learn English at school. We will explore the colors in English and Spanish with more stories, movement and songs.

Creativity Lab

About:
We are excited to introduce the Creativity Lab with Ms. Sabrina. This program has been created to engage our older elementary students in reading, art, and other STEAM areas. This program runs about 60 mins. and will focus on more advanced crafts, science expiriments, art projects, and writing skills.  Come learn, play, and create some cool stuff!

Furry Tales with the Humane Society of Greenwood

Join Mr. Drake and Mr. John from the Greenwood County Humane Society for a dog lover's dream story time. Meet a local shelter dog looking for a great story and a fur-ever home.

Come to the Children's Room for our first in house Furry Tales story time since 2020! 

Book: Black Dog by Levi Pinfold

An enormous dog appears outside a family's home, and eveyone is terrified except the youngest member of the family. The child runs and plays with the dog, and by the end of the story something very exciting has happened. This story will leave readers smiling from ear to ear.

Wednesday, March 2

Furry Tales continues with a visit from a furry friend from the Greenwood County Humane Society and our story time friends, Mr. Drake and Mr. John.

Book: Madeline Finn and the Therapy Dog by Lisa Pap

Madeline Finn takes her dog, Star, to take his test to become a therapy dog. Listeners will learn the many requirements and challenges of therapy dogs.

One of the happiest days at the Greenwood County Library is when our furry friend from the Greenwood County Humane Society comes to visit for an in person story time.

Storywalks

Take a walk and read a book around the Library's grounds! After you finish, make sure to come inside to the Children's Room for a special surprise.


What is a Story Walk?

A story walk is an outdoor activity where pages of a children's book are displayed on signs throughout a path for children and their caregivers to read as they walk along a set path or trail.

Bad Weather

Since our signs are temporary, we will not set them up during rainy weather. If necessary, we will reschedule days as needed.
