How can I access local history?

Burnet County Library System’s primary repository for local and family history (genealogy resources) is located in the Elizabeth Van Gorkum Research Center at Herman Brown Free Library in Burnet.

It contains:

  • Genealogy guides
  • Local family histories
  • Burnet County History and some Texas and other states’ information
  • Local newspapers on microfilm
  • Digital microfilm reader

Brief training is required to use the microfilm reader.  A training session can be scheduled with the Burnet County Genealogical Society at or call the Herman Brown Free Library at 512-715-5228.
Be sure to bring your library card or ID, and a flash drive.
