 My Cousin Vinny (1992)
On their way back to college, two young New Yorkers (actors Machio and Whitfield) travel through rural Alabama, then are arrested and put on trial for a murder they did not commit. A cousin, Vincent Gambini (played by Joe Pesci)--a lawyer who had only recently passed the bar exam after several unsuccessful attempts--takes the case, but has no trial experience. He's not only inexperienced--he's unaccustomed to both courtroom and Southern rules and manners. Much of the humor comes from the fish-out-of-water interaction between the brash Italian-American New Yorkers (Vinny and his fiancée, Mona Lisa) and the more reserved Southern townspeople.
